Inclusive regulatory website

The robotic and autonomous systems gateway.

I joined a project that would completely shift how I approach delivery. It was my first hands-on experience in Agile, and the project was far from simple: designing a digital portal to help people make sense of Australia’s regulatory frameworks for autonomous systems.

Challenge

Building clarity on autonomous systems regulation.

Australia’s autonomous systems industry is full of innovation, but tangled in complex and siloed regulations.

Bringing a robotics product to market means navigating uncertainty, duplicated compliance efforts, and multiple documentation. That’s when the Trusted Autonomous Systems (TAS), backed by Advance Queensland and the QLD Government, had the vision to build a national regulatory knowledge gateway.

When I joined the project, it was lacking visual consistency, intuitive structure, and clear guidance. It didn’t feel cohesive enough to empower users into navigating the portal with confidence.

Process

Consolidating user interface and experience.

I joined as Senior Designer and took ownership of how the overall experience looked, felt, and functioned, all while embedding the design work into a true agile delivery model.

We approached the problem by revisiting the design system, focusing on accessibility and conceptual clarity.

I partnered closely with development and delivery leads to ensure that visual and interaction design evolved sprint by sprint.

The aim was to move beyond a “better looking” site, we wanted to enable confidence on how users understood and moved through regulatory complexity. That meant making the interface human, serene, empowering, and responsive to user needs.

Solution

Accessibility-first visual identity, UX/UI, and motion design.

I started with a deep audit of the brand current experience, identifying the gaps and opportunities to bring coherence across the solution. From there, I rebuilt the brand system with a revised colour palette that was both colour-blind friendly and WCAG AAA compliant.

I took a role in consolidating the portal design and experience direction. Alongside that, I led the creation of two animated explainer videos: defining scripts, storyboards, illustration, soundtracking and editing to bring them to life.

I also mentored junior designers throughout and took a front-line role during hyper care support period, leading smooth handover documentation and supporting client confidence for one year after the portal was launched.

Results

A national regulatory gateway, designed for trust and clarity.

The final product launched publicly at rasgateway.com.au. A digital resource for Australian innovators working with autonomous systems.

It now serves as a go-to hub for understanding compliance pathways, regulatory frameworks, and industry-specific obligations. And it does it in a way that feels clear, well-structured, and built with people in mind.

At the client summed it up better than I could:

“This is such an exceptionally hard space to play… and the team has just been absolutely superior in their capacity to approach it with a can-do attitude, to translate it into something that might be accessible, useful and meet the mission of the autonomous systems industry.”

Takeaways

Agile builds momentum, Design builds trust.

Working in a proper agile environment was a game-changer. Being embedded into a delivery cadence with sprint planning, retrospectives and standups meant that every effort had visibility and impact, stacking up momentum all the way.

Also, designing a cohesive and accessible visual foundation helped to get instant stakeholders buy-in and increased the project perceived value, building a strong sense of credibility and ease for the solution.

Delivering trust, especially when dealing with complexity, is critical. And by combining thoughtful design with agile delivery, it’s possible to develop a solution that is accessible, trustworthy, and built to evolve.
